If I paint crowned I’ve had it, got me, 2008.
This piece by Richard Aldrich is a canvas opened in the middle and top to reveal part of the outer and inner frame. This deconstruction takes us away from what is normally expected when we look at a painting and we find are selves looking at what lives beneath the canvas. Deforming the painting and suddenly you consider what once would of existed on the taken away material. There is this controlled intensity within the work, Aldrich has this understanding of the medium, knowing when to stop. He creates a narrative between the viewer and the work where we look at how painting exists and that does not necessarily include paint.
