Holly Hendry

Cornered (2014)

Holly Hendry’s work Cornered (2014) gets squeezed into the architectural form by two beams which seem to barricade the object in place, until the pressure forces the object to out-pour from the architectural space. Scale is important in the work, as it exploits the architectural space, bringing questions on what the interior and exterior of the space is, what’s within the object.

The giant latex balloon forms are pumped with air, to the point where the space seems it will collapse to the pressure. The object could seem alive and feels like it is engulfing its surrounding, bringing are attention to the structures around us. The work pushes the exterior and interior and tests are limits, making the structures we exist in seem fragile.
